Lebanon, VA – Ralph Hale, age 83, of Lebanon, VA passed away Monday, April 29, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Born December 29, 1935 in Jewell Ridge, Virginia, he was a son of the late Walton and Goldie Ray Hale. Ralph was a member of the Pruner Masonic Lodge #254, Honaker, VA. He was a born again Christian and attended several churches in the Lebanon area. Ralph was a retired foreman for Jewell Smokeless Coal and Coke of Vansant, VA. He enjoyed several hobbies including construction work, his love for playing bluegrass music and spending time with grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by four brothers: Fred Walton Hale, James Thomas Hale, Harold Edward Hale and Arlin Hale; mother-in-law; Attie Hicks; sister-in-law; Patsy Hicks.
Survivors include his wife: Nancy Hale of the home; sons: Steven Ralph Hale and wife Belva of Kingsport, TN; Timothy Scott Hale and wife Ginger of Rosedale, VA; daughter: Beth Anne Trail and husband James of Bristol, VA; step son: Stephen Campbell and wife Patty of Castlewood, VA; father-in-law: Earn Hicks; sister-in-law: Phyllis Meade and husband J.D. of St. Paul, VA; grandsons: Matthew Scott Hale and Adam Wesley Hale; granddaughters: Emilee Brooke Hale and Stephanie Hale Owens; great granddaughter; Breelyn Olivia Owens: step grandchildren: Chris Campbell and wife Megan, Timothy Campbell and wife Elizabeth and Abigail Campbell; step great granddaughters: Aria and Hayley Campbell; step great grandson: Carson Campbell; seven siblings: Ruby Hurt of Smithfield , NC, Ann Carter and husband Ray of Manassas, VA, Clayton Hale and wife Barbara of Rowe, VA, Kenneth Hale and wife Beth of Alexandria, VA, Bill Hale and wife Freda of Honaker, VA, Bob Hale and wife Bea of Rural Retreat, VA and Cathy McGlothlin and husband Perry of Rowe, VA; four sisters-in-law: Margaret Hale of Mavisdale, VA, Caroline Hale of Aiken, SC, Drema Hale of Raven, VA and Lois Hale of Honaker, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Ralph Hale will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019 in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Doug Trent, Reverend Roger Herald and Reverend Virgil Musick officiating. Entombment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Garden Mausoleum. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2019 where Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. by Pruner Lodge #254.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Hale, Bill Hale, Clayton Hale, Matthew Hale, Adam Hale, Stephen Campbell, Chris Campbell and Timothy Campbell. Honorary pallbearers: Kenneth Hale, Perry McGlothlin, Ray Carter, J.D. Meade and nephews.
