Lillie Ardist “Art” Hicks Dixon, 86, a resident of Arden, N.C., entered her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 28, 2019. She was born in Castlewood, Va., on October 3, 1931, to the late Henry Clabe Hicks and Nancy Mary Lou Cindy “Nannie” Hicks.

Art was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and a friend to all. Throughout her life, she held an unwavering faith in God, and loved to share a Bible verse with you over a cup of coffee. She was among other things a leader of Bible studies, led Vacation Bible school productions, drama productions, was a youth group leader for various churches, a writer, a Sunday school teacher, prayer warrior, led a rest-home ministry, visited widows and orphans, and exceled in showing hospitality as she welcomed anyone into her home. She also loved to go shopping with family and friends, canning food, traveling, sewing, knitting, and reading.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Nathaniel Hicks; brothers, Jack Patton “Pat” Hicks, Charlie Cowen “Chad” Hicks; sister, Ibbie Virginia Ellen “Ginny” Salyer; brothers-in-law, William Bill Salyer and Paul Hammonds; sisters-in-law, Victoria Hicks and Shirley Hicks.

She is survived by her lifelong sweetheart and husband of 67 years, Kenneth Eugene Dixon Sr.; her son, Kenneth Eugene “Gene” Dixon, II of Candler, N.C.; daughters, Theressa Kay Dixon Coren and husband, Sonny, of Arden, N.C., Pamela Jill Dixon Staton and husband, Phil, of Randleman, N.C., and Amy Christine Dixon Hyatt and husband, John, of Arden; brothers, Henry “Allen” McCoy Hicks and wife, Jeanette, of Nickelsville, Va., and James Larry Wayne “Jim” Hicks of Castlewood, Va.; sisters, Nancy Vera Hammonds; Thelma Fern Burke and husband, Rev. Buddy, and Betty Darlene Austin and husband, Howard “Shorty”, all of Castlewood. Art is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and 20 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with an open invitation to family and friends to share stories and memories to celebrate the life Art lived.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019, in the Hicks Family Cemetery in Castlewood, Va. Those wishing to go in procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 p.m.
