ST. GEORGE - Lydia Angeline Ferguson Carter, 100, died February 27, 2006 in St. George, UT. She was born February 27, 1906 in Relief, KY to Lewis Monroe Ferguson & Arnola Elizabeth Brown. She married William Vernon Carter in Globe, AZ on May 5, 1927.

Lydia was raised in Safford, AZ where she attended high school. She was a life time member of the LDS Church. She lived in Miami, Arizona, Ashland, KY, Phoenix, AZ, Kanab, UT & St. George, UT. Lydia became a nurse at 50 years of age. She was awarded several ribbons for the handmade quilts she entered in the county fair. She enjoyed serving in St. George LDS Temple, reading, studying gospel, sewing, crocheting, dancing and eating chocolates. She also loved laughter and gatherings with family and friends.

Lydia is survived by her daughters: Patricia Winters of St. George, UT and Kay Bays of Aberdeen, MD; grandchildren: Jill Hanson, Jan Winters, Joni Fullmer, James Bays, Jody King, John Bays and Jess Bays. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and all 11 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, UT. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary 435-673-4221.
