Robert was the son of Seneca E and Mattie F Everst Smith. He married Emma Wyman Kingsley, daughter of John Harrison an Lizzie Ann Wyman Kingsley (who are buried in this cemetery) in Clarendon on 18 July 1906. They had one child, Kingsley. Emma's grandparents were Harrison and Caroline R Taylor Kingsley and Thomas J and Diana/Diantha Foster Wyman, who are all buried in this cemetery. Emma's great grandparents were Chester and Rhoda Weeks Kingsley, buried in the Congregational Church Cemetery in Brandon.

Robert Seneca Smith was born in Clarendon on the Smith farm on November 18, 1880. His early education was in the a multigrade school at the Flats. Upon graduation from Yale Divinity School,(1903) he became assistant pastor of the Congregation Church in Montclair, N.J., and I believe it was the year he married my mother Emma Wyman Kingsley. Before taking up his pastorate in Montclair he preached his first sermon at the Congregational Church on the
Clarendon Flats (The Old Brick Church) and there is a plaque in the vestibule of that church commemorating that event. Dad and Mother moved from Montclair to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in 1911 where he became the pastor of the First Congregational Church on Mill Street in that city. I was born on January 26, 1912. In 1917 Dad was called to serve as a full professor of religious education at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., and in 1925, following my mother's death in January of that year, he went to Yale.
The Grange, America's oldest farm organization, was organized in Clarendon, VT as Otter Creek Grange. Seneca Smith was the first Master. (Page 83)
