Mrs. Mecum was a registered nurse in Illinois, Texas, Hawaii, and New Hampshire.
During WW2 she followed her husband, Glenn, from base to base-patching up pilots when needed. Daughter Judy was born in 1944 in Bloomington, Illinois. After WW2 the Mecums moved to Salem, Illinois-an oil boom town where Glenn worked for Texaco.
Daughter Nancy was born in 1948. Ernestine was the emergency room nurse for Salem Memorial Hospital and later for Dr. Katzenstein in Salem. She was an excellent nurse.
Many times she would come home to a bushel of peaches, candy, or a hand-knitted sweater on her porch. After her divorce she cared for her mother, Grace Yanney, in Bloomington. Later moving to Chester for 20 years of traveling, joy, and love.
