Milton Eugene Martin Franck's two middle names came from his maternal grandfather (Eugene Owen) and paternal grandfather (Martin Lewis Franck). Milton graduated from the Monona, Iowa High School in 1943. He planned to attend the University of Iowa in Iowa City but as World War II became more long term he decided to enlist instead. On May 29, 1943 he enlisted in the Navy at the Dubuque Naval Recruiting station as an apprentice seaman, regular navy. In June of 1944 he was promoted to Radioman Third Class. For the next four years he spent aboard a mine sweeper in the Pacific with the US Marines. He retired from the Navy on March 16, 1947 in order to transfer into the Air Force, making military life his career. In addition to serving in World War II, he was in the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star. His rank level was Chief Master Sergeant. During his career he was stationed at Okinawa, worked in the Pentagon in 1953-54, then was stationed in Japan, and later in Germany. After Vietnam he was again working at the Pentagon when he retired from the Air Force on December 31, 1969. He then worked as a mail carrier for twenty years in the Hazlet/Matawan, New Jersey area. He retired from the Post Office in 1990.
Milton Franck married Wilma K. Stoecker at the Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas on 13 October 1950. Their attendants were his sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn (Franck) and Forest D. Kelly. Milton and Wilma were the parents of 4 children: Christine, Randolph, Sheila, and Renee.
