Rebekah leader Byrn dies
WINDSOR--Retired Windsor postmistress and Rebekah Lodge leader Adelaide C. Byrn died Friday in a Santa Rosa convalescent hospital at the age of 92.
Mrs. Byrn had been with the Windsor Post Office as a clerk and postmistress for 40 years prior to her retirement in 1945.
Active in the Rebekah Lodge a good part of her life, she was the oldest living past president of the Rebekah lodges in the state. In 1969 she was honored at a testimonial dinner for 55 years of uninterrupted attendance at state meetings of the lodge.
She had served as Noble Grand of Russian River Rebekah Lodge 167 in 1923 and was president of the Rebekah Assembly of California in 1923-24. In 1945, she served as district deputy for Valley Home Chapter 182, Order of the Eastern Star.
A native of San Francisco, Mrs. Byrn had lived in the Windsor area 90 years. She leaves ber son, Edward W. Byrn, Sacramento; two grandchildren, Edward W. Byrn Jr., Santa Rosa; and Barbara A. Hischier, Oakland; and four great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Daniels Chapel of the Roses in Santa Rosa, with Donald R. Smith, past Sovereign Grand Master of the International Older of Odd Fellows, delivering the eulogy. Officers of the Rebekah Assembly of California will perform the services. Burial will follow at Oak Mound Cemetery, Healdsburg.
