AZ Terr. Death Cert. #159 show name as "E. J. McFarland", Bridge Carpenter, age 38, single, in Nogales for about 2 months. Cause of death was non-tubercular, chronic meningitis which he contracted in Sonora about 2 months prior. Burial was on the 17th in Nogales.

A Cert. of Registration of American Citizen was filed with the American Consul, Louis Hostetter at Hermisillo, Sonora, Mexico stating that J. A. McFarland arrived at Alamos, Sonora on 12 September 1908 for the purpose of mining. Note: "This certificate is not a passport and its validity expires on 10/23/09." and was signed "J. A. McFarland"
