George S. Austin, 71 of Greene, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Ruth Austin
and sister, Marylyn Dumesnil.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Margaret A. Austin of Greene;
his son and daughter-in-law, George and Nichole Austin and
children:
Lucian, Coy, Brooke, Brianna, Tristan and Zachary Scully;
daughter and son-in-law, Michele A. and Steven Drum of Florida and their children, Bryan, Caitlyn, Justine and Hunter;
brothers, Delbert and Raymond Austin
as well as many nieces and nephews.

George proudly served his country from 1966 to 1969 in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was wounded in combat.

After the service, he was employed and retired from IBM. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He enjoyed breakfast outings with his friends at the Skylark Diner as well as many visits to the NYS Veterans' Home. For many years he enjoyed family fishing trips with his wife Margaret to Canada. He truly enjoyed spending time his grandkids who made him proud and daily walks with his dog and best friend Andy.

His smile, fun spirited personality and a love for life will be deeply missed by all and never forgotten.

A funeral service with Military Honors will be held 7:00pm Tuesday at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778. Friends of the family may call Tuesday from 4:00pm until the time of service at Root Funeral Home.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NYS Veterans' Home 4207 NY State RT. 220, Oxford, NY 13830 or to Every Dogs Dream Adoption Center 420 Harry L Drive, Johnson City, NY 13790.
