The Rev. Richard was born on May 4, 1933, in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late Edward and Jolanda (Sommer) Brueseke. On June 2, 1956, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in St. Louis he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Eldridge. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Owensville and the Owensville Lions Club.
The Rev. Brueseke was an alumni of Eden Seminary. The Rev. Brueseke was responsible for the organization of four new congregations in the Missouri Mid-South Conference of the United Church of Christ: St. Philip's Church, Concord Village, Trinity Church of Mexico, Grace Church in O'Fallon, and Prince of Peace Church in South St. Louis County. In addition, he served the Troy-Moscow Mills Charge in Lincoln County from 1958 to 1963. After 14 years at Prince of Peace in 1977, he transferred ministerial standing to the United Reformed Church in the U.K., where he was a member of the Stockport Team Ministry for four years. Returning to the U.S. in 1981, he served Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly, Iowa, for 11 years. Rev. Brueseke was pastor of Bem Church from 1993-1999, then served at Ebenezer "Stone" Church from 1999-2009.
His survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" of the home; children, Barry Brueseke and wife, Bonnie of San Diego, CA, Becky Douglas and husband, Tony of Chippewa Falls, WI, Joel Brueseke and wife, Tracey of Waterloo, IA, and Amie Griffin of Greenville, SC; brother, Harold Brueseke and wife, Bonnie of South Bend, IN; and by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, from 4-8 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, MO.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Owensville, with Rev. Char Burch officiating. Burial will be at St. James Cemetery in Charlotte.
