Peggy Irene Smith Welch Todd, age 78 beloved mother of 7 children and widow of Delbert Welch and beloved stepmother of 8 children and widow of Albert J. Todd Sr. formally of Hemingway entered into the joys of her eternal home on Friday, April 26, 2019 at McCoy Memorial Nursing Center of Bishopville.

Peggy was born the daughter of James Heyward Smith and Mary Frances Tinsley Smith on May 8, 1940 in Lee County. After the death of her father, her mother remarried John T. "Dick" Wheeler Jr. and he became a loving father to Peggy and her siblings.

Peggy grew up in a farming environment and became an avid gardener who loved growing flowers and vegetables. She was a gifted cook and proficient in canning and preserving. She loved the outdoors. She loved fishing and made a business from raising and selling worms as fish bait.

Peggy was a simple woman who loved bargains and shopping. She was a gifted seamstress and loved crocheting and often made gifts of her self-created treasures. She frequently blessed everyone with her treasures as gifts.

She was epitome of a country southern Christian woman and never met a strange. Everyone became her friend. She gave of herself daily and never asked for anything in return except a smile and to know that her gifts would be used.

Above all, Peggy was a loving mother and grandmother. Her legacy remains in the loving, giving nature that she bestowed upon her family. Traits that would be honored for years to come.

Peggy and Delbert celebrated 37 years of marriage and was blessed with 7 children, Brenda (Donnie) Baker, Heyward (Cindy) Welch, Russell "Shorty" (Debbie) Welch, Jean (Steve) Feddersen, John Allen "Dick" (Lynn) Welch, Wendy Teal (Dawayne Gause) and Cheryl (Charles) Branch.

With the Marriage of Peggy and Albert Todd Sr, she was blessed with 8 stepchildren who she came to love as her own, Claudia (Bill) Moyer, Rev. Jack Todd Jr., Victor Todd, Albert "Al" Todd Jr., Michael (Marie) Todd, Susan (Johnny) Todd, Timothy (Elaine) Todd and Sylvia Todd. Uniting her 7 children and his 8 children as one large loving family.

Peggy was blessed with 38 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one sister, Carolyn (Raymond) Lane and a sister-in-law, Leila Smith.

She was preceded by her parents, Mary Frances/James Heyward/John T. "Dick", her husbands, Delbert Welch and Albert Todd Sr., a brother Ralph Smith, a sister Diane Smith Jett, bother-in-law Bill Jett, stepchildren Al Todd, Sylvia Todd and step-son- in-law Johnny Todd.

A Home Going celebration will be at 3pm Sunday, April 28,2019 at Mt. Calvary P.H. Church, 3336 N. Hwy.17-A Bonneau, SC.

The Welch-Todd Family will receive friends directly after the service in the church sanctuary.
