Funeral service for Gloria Jean (Maxfield) Porter, 72, of Lawton will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at New Life Assembly of God Church, Cache, Oklahoma with Rev. David McCracken, pastor officiating.
Mrs. Porter passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 in Lawton.
Burial for both Gloria and CSM Robert Wayne will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma .
Gloria was born on November 7, 1946 in Lawton, Oklahoma to William Eugene and Juanita Bell (Buzbee) Maxfield. She grew up in Lawton where she attended school. She married Robert W. Harrison in December of 1964 while in her senior year at Lawton High School. After graduating in 1965, they remained in Lawton and Gloria was a homemaker. She later married Robert Wayne Porter on December 15, 1979 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and they moved to Germany and later to Fort Hood, Texas. Later returning to Germany and then to Fort Bliss, Texas where she began her career with civil service at White Sands, New Mexico which was right across the state lines. Gloria retired from civil service in 2006 and they moved to Chaparral, New Mexico. After 37 years of wonderful marriage, Mr. Porter passed away on February 8, 2017. Gloria then returned to Lawton in June of 2017 to be near her family. She loved her rose garden and painting; with her specialty being Native American art. She adored her horse and dogs. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Harrison, of the home; her son, Russell Harrison, of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters and brother in law, Gail and Jerry Dixon, of Cache, OK and Vicky Drzewucki, of Lawton, OK; her grandchildren and their spouses, Russell King, Jennifer Renner and Anthony Edward, Jr., Katie Harrison, Patricia and Denton Foster, Autumn Nix and Tanner Beauregard, and Bailey Harrison; her great grandchildren, Kaden Cruz, Gabriella Cruz, Matthew Foster, and Brantley Foster; many nieces, nephews and a host of cousins, aunts and uncles including a special aunt, Shirley Robinette, of OKC, OK.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Wayne Porter; and her son, Robbie Wayne Harrison; her sister, Delores Dixon; and her grandson, Charlie Harrison.
