Note: The obituary states he died on April 6, but other records seem to indicate April 1, 1818.

Johann Daniel "Daniel" Miesse's parents were Johann Daniel Miesse and Elisabeth Gernand, as verified from his baptismal record from Elsoff, Wittgenstein (or Witgenstein), Germany. His only known sibling was Johannes Miesse, and he and his parents are not believed to have come to America.

Daniel Miesse was a patriot of the American Revolution. He was one of twelve men chosen by General George Washington to tend the fires while the Continental troops crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night 1776.

Daniel married twice. His first wife was Margaret Ebling (or Ebeling), and his second was Christina Eberhardt.
