John D. “J.D.” “Dan” Horan, 66 of Manhattan passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019. He was born April 19, 1953 in Abilene the son of John and Nelda (Dayhoff) Horan. He grew up in the Abilene area and graduated from Abilene High in 1971. On October 27, 1979 he was united in marriage to Viki Hake in Abilene. She survives of the home. J.D. worked 24 years for Westar Energy, the majority at Jeffrey Energy Center as a control room operator. He later owned and operated JDH Lawn and Landscape. J.D. was a hard-working man, always striving for perfection. He had to be outdoors, and if his life had taken a different turn here or there, he would have fulfilled his dream of being a forest ranger. He loved golf and riding horseback, and he had a natural talent for creating beauty out of limestone. He took a great deal of pride in his daughters and grandchildren, telling them he knew that “they would go far.” J.D. is survived by his loving wife Viki of the home. Three daughters: Tanya Schaller and spouse Randy of Park City; Amy Horan and spouse Kasey of Ohio; and Mandy Horan of Abilene. Three grandchildren: Zachary Zoeller, Rylan Northup, and Lucas Schaller. One brother, Tim Horan and wife Kathy of Abilene and two sisters, Marita Millner and husband Dick of Abilene and Joni Horan of Plainville. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sandra Willey. Graveside Services for J.D. will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 29, 2019 at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Abilene with Father Don Zimmerman as Celebrant. Family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 P.M., at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home of Abilene.
