Diana Jean DeMoss Potter, 76, passed away on April 24, 2019, just 3 days shy of her 77th birthday.
Diana was born April 27, 1942 in Cleveland (Parma), Ohio, the eldest daughter of John Thomas and Jeannette (Ostrander) DeMoss. She had passions of extensive international travel and gourmet foods with long leisurely dinners.
Diana graduated early from Parma Senior High School, Class of 1953. She graduated from Ohio University (Athens) with a degree in Journalism. She spent some years in Miami, Florida working for National Airlines beginning her desire to travel as many as she could. She entered the United States Air Force, graduating from Officer Training School in 1968 with the endorsement of first female Brigadier General Jeanie Holmes. Diana held assignments in Public Relations at several national and internal Air Force Bases. During her 20 years of active duty service she achieved her Master’s Degree in Public Relations from University of Oklahoma, and her Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD.) from St. Louis University. She retired from the United States Air Force in 1988 as rank of Lt. Colonel.
While assigned to Riverside California in 1969, she met her husband, Greg Allen Potter, also an Air Force Officer. They were the first American couple to be married at the Japanese Meiji Shrine in Tokyo, Japan in 1970. They lived in Germany for the first 5 years of their marriage, stationed at Sembach Air Base. They spent many of their retirement years traveling on extensive cruises and visited over 100 countries. A few of her favorites were Australia, Cambodia, and Europe.
Diana is survived by her husband of 49 years. Diana and Greg have resided in Cleveland, Tennessee for the past 11 years to be close to their daughter, Tiffany Erin Potter, her husband Paul (Tony) Patterson, and grandson Tristen John Thomas Kibler, Caitlyn Renee Patterson, and David Blake Patterson. Diana is also survived by her three siblings, John S. L. DeMoss, Marilyn L. Craik, and Dr. Yvonne R. DeMoss, whom all reside in Arizona. Diana has several nieces and nephews across the country. She passed peacefully into eternal life to join multiple family and friends who have gone ahead of her. Quite the reunion it must have been!
Details of a Celebration of Life Ceremony and service are to be determined. Once determined, her service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
