Lawrence A. McDonald
January 29, 1950 - April 25, 2019

Lawrence Anthony McDonald was born January 29, 1950, in Denison, Iowa, the son of Bill and Margaret Schmieding. He passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of sixty-nine.

Larry received his education in the Dunlap Community Schools. Larry's parents operated the Dunlap swimming pool and Larry worked as a lifeguard for them. After high school, he served his country in the United States Army at Fort Carson, Colorado, after being transferred from the Army National Guard. He received an honorable discharge March 16, 1973, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Larry continued his education at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City where he was enrolled in the meat cutting classes. He was employed at Iowa Beef Processors for 25 years and then as a federal meat inspector for both IBP and Farmland for an additional 22 years, retiring when he was 65. He was united in marriage to Jewell Kluver and the couple was blessed with four children: Sherri, Serina, Holly and Heath.

Larry was an outdoor man who loved to fish, hunt and camp. He occasionally took his family to Canada and to Lake of the Woods. He also was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed attending flee markets. An animal lover, Larry had a special place in his heart for his dog. Elvis, John Wayne movies, other westerns and binge watching Netflix were among his favorites. Larry enjoyed helping people and provide for those less fortunate. He was a family man who became very close to his children as a loving father and very much enjoyed spending time with his family.

Preceding Larry in death were his parents and two grandchildren. Survivors include: Judy, with whom he had a loving relationship; three daughters, Sherri, Serina and her husband, Joe, and Holly and her husband, Dan; one son, Heath and his wife, Sara; fourteen grandchildren; one brother, Gary and his wife, Chris; other relatives and friends.
