Born March 1849, Tambury, Ill to William Edward Gilliam.

Married twice:

1) Samuel E. Belt (1838-1901) - a widower with several small children: Permelia, Alice, Samuel, John R. She is buried under his name; exact cemetery is unclear address on N. 8th. They married 23 January 1880, Franklin Co., Arkansas. In 1901 when he died, she was noted as living in Dahoma, Franklin Co., Arkansas. His military career was 1862-1865, he enrolled in Newark, MO and was discharged in Chattanooga, TN. He was treated at the Veterans hospital in Leavenworth shortly before he died. She had three children with Samuel E. Belt according to census data :William, Dora, and Mattie.

2) Thomas Benjamin Carter (1842-1919) - also a Civil War Veteran and a patient -on and off - at the Veterans Hospital from 1889 until 1919 when he died. They are found on the census and in the veterans home records.

Both husbands buried in the 'National Cemetery'.
She is buried under a stone reading "Sarah J Belt At Rest Wife of Samuel Belt."

She is found on the 1900 Hurricane Twp., census of Franklin Co., Arkansas with Samuel b. 1838 Indiana; Dora Belt b. 1883 in Ark; Mattie born 1885 in Ark and Perry born 1870 in MO. Samuel had a previous wife.

She is found in the 1910 and 1915 census with Tho B. Carter and is mentioned in his record at the Veteran's Hospital. They married ca 1904.
