Elmeda Hester

Elmeda Hamet Hester, 89, of 220 Webster St., wife of the late Jim C. Hester, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003.

Born in Transylvania County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Andrew S. and Maybelle McGaha Hamet. Mrs. Hester retired from JPS, Slater plant, after 36 years of service, and was a member of Slater Church of God, where she served as Sunday School teacher for 50 years and was a member of the Willing Workers.

Surviving are her children, Jean H. Mailen, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Frances H. and Charles Monroe, of Travelers Rest, Barbara H. and Richard Payne, of Travelers Rest, Kenneth M. and Clara Hester, of Greer, and James C. and Betty Hester, of Anderson; one brother, Charles Hamet, of Easley; one sister, Sarah Galloway, of Pickens; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Hamet; and a sister, Alberta Ball.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Slater Church of God with burial to follow at Grand View Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends this afternoon from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to Slater Church of God, 105 Woodland Road, Marietta, SC 29661.

The family will be at the home.

The Howze Mortuary, Funeral Directors, Travelers Rest, is in charge of arrangements.
