Martha Edith (Allen) Downing, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and servant of our Lord, passed away on October 20, 2015 at the age of 81, after suffering many years with rheumatoid arthritis.

She was born May 1, 1924, to Ethan and Nancy Allen in Plainfield, New Jersey.

Martha was a homemaker, professional artist and horse trainer. She was also a faithful member of the Lawrenceville Church of Christ.

She was a member of the American Academy of Equine Art, at Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, Kentucky. Martha trained and rode in competitive 100 mile rides in Florida and North Carolina.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry Downing, Sr.; three children, Harry Downing, Jr. of Florida, Nancy Maguire of Georgia and Cheryl Mellish of Florida. She has two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home, 265 Georgia Hwy. 211 NW, Winder, Georgia 30680.
