Obituary from The Independent Record:

Painlessly, blamelessly and peacefully, Jan was taken up by the angels to be with her Lord on Feb. 23, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her gifts to those who knew her were her humor, a beautiful smile and generous heart. She was an icon of selflessness and faithfulness to her family and friends.

Jan was born to this world on June 13, 1945, by Lorene and William F. Burr and raised in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Denver. The family moved to Helena in 1953. Jan worked 29 years for agencies of Montana's Department of Justice including the Highway Patrol, the Crime Control Division and the Attorney General's Office.

Jan's favorite pastimes were traveling, camping, golfing, playing cards with her friends and relishing life with her children and grandchildren. She traveled as often as she could to visit her cherished family.

Jan was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who brought three beautiful children into the world. They have blessed her with five grandchildren and a new little one coming in August.

She is survived by her husband, Marv; mother, Lorene Burr; brother, Bill Burr; sister, Barbara Ann Foster; children, Joanne Gish and her husband Verne, Todd Easbey, Kristin King and her husband Doug; stepchildren, Kerwin Dye and his wife Shirley, Eric Dye and his wife Debbie. Her grandchildren include: Timothy, Mary and Garrett Gish, Chase and Lauren King, Kaylee Dye, Teddy and Matthew Dye. Her nephews and nieces that adore her so much include Laurie Tennant, Mike Foster, Mark Easbey and Tonya Easbey. Jan leaves behind her best friend, Bobbie Conrady and her family, along with many, many friends and co-workers whose lives she touched daily.

She was preceded in death by her father and her nephew, Scott Foster.

A service to celebrate Jan's life and honor her precious memory will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the First Lutheran Church, 2231 Broadway, at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Nicholas Speier of St. Athanasius Orthodox Church of Santa Barbara, Calif. presiding. A graveside service will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. A memorial celebration will also be held in Santa Barbara at a later date for all of her family and friends in California.

Jan has requested that memorials be made to the Montana Hope Project or the Cancer Center at St. Peter's Hospital in lieu of flowers.

May God keep lighted her path from this world and may her memory be eternal!
