Sonny was born on November 30, 1928, in Navarro County, Texas, to the late Thomas Jefferson Owen and Lillian Ross Owen.
He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1945 and served two years earning a Victory Medal WWII. He married Mary Alice Barr on July 5, 1951. They were known as Sonny and Gal from that point forward. They had two children, Ross and Valerie. He worked for the City of Dallas as an electrician for 30 years before retiring. Sonny and Gal then retired to Navarro County where he enjoyed ranching (his favorite hobby).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice "Gal"; his daughter, Donna Owen Wynn; and his son-in-law, David Hawkins.
Sonny is survived by his son, Ross Owen, of Dallas; daughter, Valerie Hawkins, of Copeville, Texas; grandchildren: Steve Owen, Alicia Hawkins, and Amanda Hawkins; brothers; Donald Butler, of Corsicana, and Bob Owen, of Arkansas; other relatives and many friends.
