The funeral for W. Nolen Koger, 89, of Bassett, who died Oct. 21, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Community Baptist Church with Pastor Carson Williams officiating. Burial will be in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bassett Funeral Service chapel.
Koger was born in Henry County on Feb. 19, 1923, to William Frances Koger and Lucy Hutchinson Koger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Koger; his second wife, Lucille Koger; a grandchild, Melissa Anne Koger; and a brother, Dudley Koger.
He served in the Army during World War II, attended Community Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the Bassett Rescue Squad.
Surviving are two sons, Danny Koger of Chesapeake and Ronnie Koger of Bassett; three grandchildren; and a sister, Lucy Estelle Hall of Bassett.

The funeral for W. Nolen Koger, 89, of Bassett, who died Oct. 21, 2012, was held Wednesday at Community Baptist Church with Pastor Carson Williams officiating. Burial was in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with military honors by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Claude Cobler, Jacob William Koger, Spencer Reid Koger, Clifford Stone, David Stone and Robert Wood.

W. Nolen Koger, 89, of Bassett, died Sunday, October 21, 2012, at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was born in Henry County VA on February 19, 1923 to the late William Frances Koger and Lucy Hutchinson Koger and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Koger, his second wife, Lucille Koger, grandchild, Melissa Anne Koger and a brother, Dudley Koger. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attended Community Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the Bassett Rescue Squad. Nolen is survived by two sons, Danny Koger of Chesapeake, Ronnie Koger of Bassett, three grandchildren, and a sister Lucy Estelle Hall of Bassett. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 6 - 8 PM in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM at Community Baptist Church with Pastor Carson Williams officiating.
