Obituary for Warren Dane Bailey

Warren Dane Bailey, age 86, from Remlap, Alabama. Born August 19, 1932, in Birmingham, Alabama; died Easter morning April 21, 2019. He was predeceased by his parents, Ila Evarea Headley Bailey and Arnim St. Elmo Bailey, and siblings Doreen, Ray, Ramona, Elmo Doyce and Buddy. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Robbins Bailey, daughter Dana Levering (Mike) and grandchildren Bailey and Emma Brooke Levering, son Patrick W. Bailey (Sharron) and grandchildren Layton Lowder and Shelby, Chandler, Mallory, and Britton Bailey; siblings Derrell Bailey (Cathy), Shirley Robinson, Jerry Bailey, Carolyn Bailey and Charlotte McRae, and many nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Blount County High School in Oneonta in 1951, Dane served in the U.S. Navy until 1955 aboard the U.S.S. John W. Thompson, primarily as part of the Korean War. He spoke often of his Navy travels all over the Pacific Ocean including Korea; Hawaii; Wake Island; Guam; Midway Atoll; Taipei, Taiwan; Okinawa, Japan and French Indo China (now Vietnam). After the Navy, Dane worked at Swift Packing Company before beginning a 22-year career with Smith Corona Typewriter Company in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1983, he founded AAA Typewriter Co, also in Birmingham, which he operated for 36 years before retiring to golf and fishing. Dane loved tinkering with typewriters and helping customers even up until his death. Dane attended Lester Memorial UMC in Oneonta. Growing up, Dane played baseball with his brothers and friends and developed a lifelong love of the sport ultimately becoming an avid New York Yankees fan. Dane also loved Alabama football.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 23 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Lemley Funeral Home in Oneonta. Services will be Wednesday, April 24 at 1:00pm at Lemley Chapel, with graveside at OakHill Cemetary. Pallbearers are Chandler Bailey, Keith Bailey, Bill Baker, Bob Baker, Jeff Hudson and Layton Lowder. Honorary pallbearers are D.C. Ingram, Galen Lilja, and Dave Tucker. The family suggests memorials to the Derek Jeter Turn 2 Foundation to honor Dane’s love of the New York Yankees and children. Lemley Funeral Home and Crematory directing.
