Judge Billy Joe Gilbert of Paducah, Texas was born in Dickens, Texas on October 31, 1928 and died in Midland, Texas on April 19, 2019 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his mother, Flora Marie Hart, father, Albert G. Gilbert and step-father, Charlie Hart, sister, Louise McClendon Schattel, brother, Albert J. (AJ) Gilbert. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Lee Gilbert; children, Glenda Boyer of Denton, Texas, Peggy Davis and husband, David, of Midland, Texas and Tammy Carville and husband, Eric, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Shane Bevel and wife, Frances, Dawn Belizaire and husband, Roger, Becky Hornback and husband, Jared, Shawn Carville, Matthew Davis and wife Ann, Cody Bevel, Evan Carville, and Casey Carville; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emma, Franklin, McKinley, Ryan, Graham, Eric, Ella, Ruby Ann, Edward and Madeline.

He lived in Paducah, Fort Worth, Abilene, San Angelo, and Midland, Texas, Roswell and Albuquerque, N.M., and Littleton, Colo. Billy’s careers included surveyor, draftsman, petroleum landman and rancher. Billy also served in Cottle County, Texas as county judge for two elected terms from 1990 to 1998.

Billy and Margaret were faithful members of many Baptist churches. He was first ordained in the early 1960s as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Roswell, N.M. and continued to serve in that position at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church of Midland, Texas, Arapaho Road Baptist Church of Littleton, Colo., First Baptist of Paducah, Texas and Missionary Baptist Church of Paducah, Texas.

Interment will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah immediately following the service.
Funeral services will be held 10:00AM at Missionary Baptist Church Paducah TX with Pastor Glynn Willis Officiating under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
