Per his Will dated November 23, 1903, and Filed, Proven and Recorded on Dec. 17, 1903, Benjamin A. Berkhouse stated to leave his estates to his beloved wife Margaret (Margaret Mauk his second wife), and to his children (all from first wife Catherine Geist) listed as son Jesse, daughters Annie, Alice (Orpha Alice), Seleste (Jemima Celeste or Seleste married name Wolfe), and sons Reuben and Norman, and detailed his wishes for a monument.
" Fourth: I order that a monument with a base of two sandstones 22 in x 22 in and 18 in high each placed on top of each other with the name - Berkhouse - inscribed on the upper sandstone, and a plain white marble top 10 in square and 4 feet high placed on top of upper sandstone, with the inscription giving name, age, birth and death of my deceased wife and deceased children, and said monument to be placed between my grave and that of my first wife." (Catherine Geist-Berkhouse).
(deceased children were listed in A. Frank Geist's book, "A Geist Relation-200 Years in America" written in 1940 page 471 as Lizzie [listed as Mary in census in 1870 at age 8 months-name Mary Elizabeth]; William, Myrtle, and Maggie).
The book mentions Norman as born 1880, died ____ - this is Norman Berkhouse whose marriage record July 14, 1904 at Brookville, Jefferson County to Rhoda Thompson stated his parents as B.A. Berkhouse and Catherine Geist, although his death certificate incorrectly listed his parents as Norman Burkhouse and Catherine Choen.
