Wesley B. Barnett, age 75, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, April 19, 2019 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. He was a resident of Nashville.

Wesley was born January 5, 1944, in Winslow to his parents, the late Floyd and Cathryn (Coleman) Barnett. He was a graduate of Winslow High School. Wesley went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Oakland City College and his Master’s in Education from Indiana University.

Wesley retired in 2006 from Clark-Pleasant Community Schools, where he taught in the Middle School and Junior High for more than 40 years. During that time he also coached girls’ basketball and track.

Wesley was a member of the Methodist Church and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and working on the family farm. Wesley loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and an avid reader of authors, Clive Cussler, Dan Brown and Tom Clancy. Wesley loved caring for his dogs, Happy and Sassy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marlene Lynn (Risley) Barnett, whom he married on October 29, 1966 at the United Methodist Church in Bruceville. Wesley is also survived by his children, Christopher Jon (Jessica) Barnett of New Whiteland and David Gregory (Dawn) Barnett of Nashville; siblings, Gordon (Carol) Barnett of Winslow and Janet (Howell) Shaw of Richland; grandchildren, Cassandra Barnett, Elizabeth Barnett, Tracie and Noah Seidle, and Wyatt and Brayden Barnett; great grandchildren, Isabelle, Adrian, Alexander and Lucas.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at New Life Community Church, 1450 St. Rd. 135 N. in Nashville. Family and friends may call on Thursday at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be sent in honor of Wesley to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th St. Columbus, IN 47201.
