Obituary Mrs. W. M. Wilcox

Rachel M.A. Rutan was born near Patterson, New Jersey, April 7, 1843, and died at her home northwest of Burlington, Kansas, April 26, 1915, aged 72 years and 19 days. When about 10 years old she, along with her parents, moved from New Jersey to Plainfield, Ill., where she grew to womanhood and was married to Wm. M. Wilcox, October 9, 1862. After their marriage they lived near Dwight, Ill., until 1869, and their two children, Orpha and Chas. M. were born.
In 1869 they came to Kansas, and started the home she lived in for the remainder of her life.
Both their children are married and live near the old home.
She is survived also by her husband, twelve grand-children and three great-grandchildren, also by one sister and two brothers.
She was a devoted wife and mother and a kind neighbor. Her death leaves a vacancy in the home which can never be filled.
The funeral was held at the home at 1 o'clock p.m., April 27, 1915 in charge of Rev. C. L. Daily of the Strawn M.E. church. Interment at the Bailey cemetery. There was a large crowd at the funeral.
