Dixie Carmean Chitwood Stanley, age 88 of Resaca, passed away Friday April 19th at Wood Dale Health Care in Dalton.

She was born November 17, 1930 in Gordon County, daughter of the late P.W. “Pete” Chitwood and Celia Sloan Chitwood. She was a faithful member of the Resaca Church of Christ and prior to her retirement was the owner and operator of Stanley Enterprises.

Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Clifford Stanley, five brothers, Thurman Chitwood, Felton Chitwood, Buford Chitwood, E.W. “Fat” Chitwood and B.W. Chitwood, one infant sister, two nephews, Joe Don Griffith, Sr., and Allan Bowman.

Survivors include one brother, Barnett Chitwood, Sr., eight nephews and six nieces, two sisters in-laws, Mary Jane Chitwood and Agnes Fossett. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday April 24th at 2pm from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Ministers Frank Mills, Jule Medders and Jerry Smith. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving include nephews, Ken Griffith, Ray Griffith, Jerry Griffith, Hank Chitwood, Barnett Chitwood, Jr., Scott Chitwood, Joel Bowman, and Donnie Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Simmons and Andy Bowen.
