Margaret was born September 21, 1936, in Sioux City, IA, to Woodbury and Alma (Chartier) Card. She graduated from Elk Point High School in 1954. She married the love of her life, Luverne O. Hanson, on October 4, 1955 and they have been together for nearly 64 years. Together, they weathered the challenges of raising crops, livestock, and five children on a farm north of Elk Point, SD. She worked as a telephone operator, a med aid at Prairie Estates, a cashier at Pioneer Drug, and a clerk at the Clerk of Courts in both Union and Clay counties before retiring. She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 915 Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Ladies Aide. Her most notable roles were that of a loving wife and mother. Margaret had a love for flowers and song birds, which was inherited from her dad. She also enjoyed hobbies of collecting angels, bells, and reading. Her most cherished moments were spending time with her family.
Surviving members of the family include husband, Luverne; sons, Bruce Hanson (Julie) of Baltic, SD, and Brian Hanson of Elk Point, SD; daughters Gail Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD, Terri Pace (Allen) of Elk Point, SD, and Kimberly Branson (Wes) of Elk Point, SD; sister, Jeanne Garthright (Jack) of Sioux City, IA; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Woodbury and Alma Card, and her brother, Donald.
