Sherlyn S. “Sherry” Allender, 71, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday April 17, 2019 at 6:11 PM at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born in Evansville on August 8, 1947 to Charles and Bettye (Allen) Althaus. Sherry married Ronald E. Allender in Evansville on July 2, 1966 and he survives. She was the retired owner of Bedford Glass Company along with her husband Ron.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald E. Allender of Bedford; two sons, Brian Allender of Bedford and Jason (Kenna) Allender of Bedford; six grandchildren, Whitney, Macie, Luke, Emma, Beau and Jaylynn, two great grandchildren, Braxten and Brecken; one sister, Kimberly (Bruce) Reis of Evansville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Taryn Willis.

Sherry was a member of the Woodville Baptist Church. Known to family as Mom or Mamaw, and to the rest as Sherry, she was an ardent supporter of all things connected to her children. Among those were serving as president of Dollens PTO, helping organize the Oolitic Biddy Basketball program, serving as Sunday school teacher at Bedford Free Methodist Church, being a volunteer tutor at Dollens, and helping with the Oolitic Mardi Gras festival. Unknown to many in the Bedford area is the fact that, in her youth, Sherry was a competitive figure skater with Olympic aspiration; however her career was cut short due to an accident while training.

Sherry’s most recent vocation was being a “professional spectator Mamaw.” She logged countless hours on bleachers and in gymnasiums cheering for her grand and great grandchildren in their various sports, concerts and competitions. Most important was her surrender of her life to Jesus Christ as Lord. Her faith sustained her during her countless illnesses and complications. She fought the good fight in spirit and in flesh and now rests in peace in the presence of her Savior.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Woodville Baptist Church with Pastor Glen Hamer and Pastor Jim Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens in Bedford. Visitation will be on Monday April 22, 2019 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Cresthaven Funeral Home and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 AM until service time. Cresthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
