Daily News, The (Jacksonville, NC) - Thursday, February 21, 2008

MAYSVILLE - Jason Michael Godwin, 26, of Maysville, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at home. Jason was born on Dec. 7, 1981, at Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern to Mike and Cindy Godwin.

He lived in Maysville until the age of 16 when he moved to Washington. He graduated from Washington High School in 2000. In 2001 Jason enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. He was a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was extremely proud to have served his country. Jason moved back to his hometown of Maysville in 2004. In July of that year, he married Andrea Mclaughlin, whom he had met in Oklahoma.

Jason was employed by Godwins Concrete Finishing, a company owned by his father, Mike Godwin. After years of learning the business, Jason was in the process of becoming a partner with his dad. They had already decided that the new business name would be Godwin and Son Concrete Finishing.

Jason had tightly held values that revolved around God, country, family and friends. Once you were a friend of Jason's you would constantly be uplifted by his giving spirit. Jason had a way of making every person feel as if they were his best friend or favorite family member. He was truly an angel of God. Although Jason and Andrea's paths led in different directions, above everything else in his life, his family came first. He was blessed with a beautiful girl whom he accepted as his own, and a son that was born to Andrea and him in 2004. His world revolved around his children and he lived for them both. They were absolutely everything to him.

Jason was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9960 of Cape Carteret. He was also a member of Grants Creek Baptist Church. Jason was a huge race fan, and was Dale Jr.'s biggest fan.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Grants Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. William Ray Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park in Swansboro with military honors.

Survivors include a son, Jacob Michael Godwin; a daughter, Riann Renee Godwin; the mother of his children, Andrea Godwin of Lawton, Okla.; father, Grover Michael Godwin Sr. of Swansboro; mother, Cindy J. Richardson of Maysville; sisters, Kristy Hairston and husband Marc Hairston of Sneads Ferry and Ashley J. Godwin of Swansboro; maternal grandparents, C.D. and Mary Bennett of Maysville; maternal great-grandmother, Myrtle Lee Altman of Maysville; and many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Please help the family celebrate his life and the memory of our beloved father, son, brother, and friend. The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home of Swansboro.
