Lindy was the second of three children, and the eldest son, born to Laura Kelsey James and William Abram Fisher. He had an older sister, Marilyn Sadie, and a younger brother, Lauren James. He graduated from Muscatine High School, and then served with the Army Air Corp in Greenland-1385th AAF Base Unit, as a Sgt./ Administrative Specialist. He married Jean Margaret Martin on April 4, 1948, at Musserville United Methodist Church in Muscatine, Iowa. The couple raised three children - Lyndon Michael, Randy Martin, and Debby Jeanne. He was employed by The Home-O-Nize Company for 41 years, working in Iowa until he was transferred to the Richmond, Virginia plant.
