Arthur "Sonny" Willard Evans, age 86, a lifelong Atoka, OK resident, was born on Tuesday, April 26, 1932, to Williard and Alberta (Chitwood) Evans, at Atoka, OK. Sonny passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 at his home in Atoka, OK. Sonny was a retired truck driver. Sonny proudly served his country in the Navy and reserves from 1952 to 1960. He married Retha Leona (Basham) on Wednesday, March 13th, 1957 at Sherman, TX. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. He attended East Telico School. Sonny was a deacon at Coalgate Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading, traveling with his wife, and spoiling his dogs.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Retha Leona Evans of the home in Atoka, OK; children, Barbara Lewis and husband Kenneth of Tulsa, OK, Walter Evans and wife Anglia of Lane, OK, Carolyn Riley and husband Ronnie of Shady Point, OK, Phyllis Bates and husband Vern of Atoka, OK; 8 grandkids; 9 great grandkids; very special nephew; Evan Layton of Stringtown, OK; brother, Winfred Dale Evans and wife Delinda of Atoka, OK; sisters, Geraldean Helen Layton of Armstrong, OK; Joyce Columbine of Stringtown, OK; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
