James Edward Platt was born in buckatunna, Wayne County, MS on March 8, 1945 and departed this life in Pascagoula, MS on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 after a brief battle with cancer.

He was a graduate of Moss Point High School, Moss Point, MS, Class of 1964. From 1964 to 1991 he was the corporate purchasing agent for Standard Products Co., Inc. and AMPRO Fisheries, Inc. and retail sales center owner, all in Moss Point. From 1992 until his death, he was a real estate appraiser and broker at his company, Platt Properties in Moss Point and was also active in commercial building and leasing in Moss Point and Pascagoula, MS.

James was a faithful member, Sunday School teacher, and deacon of First Baptist Church of Moss Point. Early in his life he was a member of his father’s congregation at Escatawpa Assembly of God, Escatawpa, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, The Reverend Robert Edward and Mae Belle Rigney Platt from Waynesboro, MS and Pascagoula, and his brother, Robert Joseph Platt of Moss Point.

He is survived by his son and daughter, James Edward Platt, Jr. and Angela Marie Platt Lane; granddaughter, Mia Chloe Platt; grandsons, Janson Alan Lane and Cameron James Lane, all of Moss Point, MS. He is also survived by his sisters, Lena Mae Platt McClenic of Gautier, MS, and Mary Helen Platt (Roy) Crane of Hurley, MS; sister-in-law, JoAnn Platt Hart of Moss Point, MS; brothers, Alton (Judy) Platt of Gulfport, MS, and Gene Platt of Moss Point; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Moss Point. Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Serene Memorial Gardens, Moss Point, MS.
