Charles was born March 25, 1941, in Hotspot, Kentucky, the son of Earl and Martha Hodge Elam. On August 9, 1982, he married Rhonda K. Skinner.
Mr. Elam worked for Cummins Engine Company for 18 years and eventually retired from Harrdick after several years of service there. He loved his dogs, Festus and Doc.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Rhonda; son, Chris Elam; grandchildren, Miranda Elam, Hannah Elam, all of Columbus, Jordan Elam of Seymour; siblings, Terry(Elaine)Elam of Ohio, Doug Elam of Columbus, Wendy Ison, Donnie Elam, Harry Pennington, all of Kentucky, Charlie(Hazel)Rooks, Haze(Becky)Stamper, Cecil(Betsy)Caudill, Harry(Cindy)Baker and Terry(Jim)Burgan, all of Columbus; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Cole Elam and baby boy Eric Elam.
In keeping with the family's wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Wes Jones officiating.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Inunnment will be at Bear Creek Cemetery.
