Cleon Brown, Sr. was the only child born to Caesar Brown and Nola Mae Rogers (Wilson) in Stringtown, Oklahoma on April 16, 1934. Later, he moved with his mother to McAlester, Oklahoma. Cleon attend school at Toussaint O’ Louverture, where he cultivated his appreciation for music playing saxophone in the band, and his love for sports competing in football, basketball, and track and field. After graduating from high school, he attended Oklahoma A&M College (Now, Oklahoma State University) where he obtained a certification their Electronics Training Program. Upon completion he moved to the Kansas City area seeking opportunities in his area of study, and began working as a Pullman Porter, then he enlisted in the Army, where he served a tour of duty in Korea.

Upon his return, he came back to McAlester, courted and married Myra Lou Boxley, in October of 1958. That union produced two sons, Cleon Jr. and Cedric Darwin. Cleon and Myra’s union lasted for over thirty years. Cleon was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and godfather.

He encouraged his sons to pursue their education, music, athletics and live lives in faith and service to their communities One of his great joys were his grandchildren, As a family man, he believed that he should be a provider, so he committed to working at Ford Motor Company for more than thirty years. He also believed in serving his community and he dedicated many years of his life as a leader in Boy’s Scouting. He was a man of faith accepting Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He enjoyed worshiping with his beloved Mariah Walker AME church family.

Cleon loved to compete! Whether it was bowling, bid whist, dominos, or a good debate he enjoyed the competition and played to win! He strived to attend his sons, and grandson’s athletic events. He was also a long-time season ticket holder of the Kansas City Chiefs, he enjoyed attending and watching his beloved Chiefs, basketball games, and an occasional baseball game. After his retirement, and until his health prevented it you could find him power walking in the mall. Jovial and engaging, he was friend to many.

Cleon was proceeded in death by both parents, his sister Jeanetta, Myra L. Boxley Brown, and his beloved friend and companion Rebecca Morton.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sons and daughters-in-law, Cleon Jr. and Dorothy, and Cedric and Karen); his only granddaughter Andrea Nicole; his four grandsons Xavier, Jordan, Ian, and Mitchell, his sister Josie Oulds, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the two ladies that loved, sacrificed and cared for him in his later days Ms. Brenda Boles and Ms. Jackie Harris.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Lawrence A. Jones Linwood Chapel. Visitation 11:00 A.M. Interment Lincoln Cemetery.
