Patrick W. Brooks of Mount Airy, PA (formerly from Flourtown, PA) passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019 after a valiant 8 year battle with T-Cell Lymphoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents John P. and Rose V. Brooks (nee Dunkerley) as well as his brother Paul J. Brooks. He was a proud father to Patrick and a loving brother to Mary E. Brooks (MacDonald), John R. (Peggy), Rosemarie Brooks (MacDonald), Anne Brooks (Sams), Ellen R., James T. (Theresa) as well as Cynthia Culp Jacob. He was generous and giving to his 22 nieces and nephews Colleen, Ian, Mathew, Richard, Bonnie, Maggie, Johnny, Rebecca, Sheila, Bryan, Jason, Leigh, Sara, Tyler, David, Michael, Kenny, Katrina, Laura, Emily, Kathleen and James.
Pat attended Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote PA. In 1972 he joined the US Navy and served as a Boiler Technician aboard the USS Nitro. The Nitro was an ammunition ship that conducted replenishment operations in support of aircraft carriers and battle ships. Pat was proud to be a Vietnam Veteran and proud to be “NAVY”.
After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for the Sisters of Saint Joseph atChestnut Hill College in Philadelphia as well as the Retreat House in Cape May, NJ. Later heworked as a Building Superintendent for both WIP in Philadelphia and then Immaculata College in Chester. He moved to Yonkers, New York for about 10 years and worked there as an exterminator for AM Pest Control. After moving back to PA from New York, He worked in several construction jobs at both the Jersey Shore and Philadelphia areas.
Pat was a real handy man who could fix just about anything and he was always there to lend a hand or help someone else in need. A tough guy with a gentle heart, he was loyal, dependable and true to his friends and family. Pat was an avid reader who loved novels and was always well versed in current events and politics. He was a quick wit with a biting sense of humor.
Although Pat’s health may have failed, he never lost his sense of optimism or spirit of independence. He was appreciative of his care givers at the Philadelphia VA Hospital. He was a true “Cancer Warrior” who will not be forgotten.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Feb 8 at 11:00 AM at Lownes Family Funeral Home 659 Germantown Pike, Lafayette Hill. A Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb 8 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at The Funeral Home before the service
