Sarah Josephine Smith, 83, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at the Daniel Healthcare Complex Inc. She was born Aug. 8, 1923, to the late Zack T. and Alma Coussins Gowan. She lived in Griffin, Ga., until she moved to Mantachie about nine years ago. She was a member of the Mantachie United Methodist Church and a homemaker. She was an excellent "Nanney" to all her grandchildren. An avid reader, she enjoyed watching T.V.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mantachie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in the Center Star Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Ronny C. Cooper (Susan) of Mantachie; one sister, Dolly Prince of Griffin, Ga.; three grandchildren, Mike Cooper of Orlando, Fla., Steve Cooper (Lisa) of Mantachie and Greg Cooper (Allison) of Smithville; five great-grandchildren, Michaela Cooper, Greg Cooper, Ashton Cooper, Kenzie Cooper and Allus Cooper; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.G. Smith; a son, Alvin Roy Cooper; a daughter, Mary Cooper; her parents; three brothers, Aubey Gowan, Charlie Gowan and Zackey Gowan; and a sister, Verna Blakely.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Friday.
