Bolivar Newspaper--Gus Viles succumbs to lengthy illness. Gus Viles died last Sunday at his home 6 miles northeast of Pleasant Hope, after a lingering illness. The funeral services sere held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, May 10, at Schofield, preached by Rev. C. E. Salsman. Interment was in the Schofield cemetery under the direction of the Willard B. Erwin funeral home of Pleasant Hope. Gus Viles was born in Polk County, MO, January 28, 1892. He was the son of Joe and Em Viles. He departed this life May 9, 1937, at the age of 45 years, 3 months and 11 day. He was united in marriage to Beulah Cates May 1, 1918. He professed faith in Christ about twenty-five years ago and joined the Schofield Baptist church, where he remained a member until the Death Angel called him home. He bore his suffering with patience and spoke often to his friends of his readiness to go. He spent his entire life in Polk Co., with the exception of about 4 years in California. He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife; a daughter, Wanda; his mother; four brothers, Charley, Jack, Burnel, and Joe Viles; one sister, Mrs. Verda Lejeune, all near the home address, and a host of other relatives and friends. To know him was to love him.
