Darren Ray Miller, 42, of Bismarck, formerly of Minot, passed away of cardiac arrest on Sunday, April 14, 2019 in a Las Vegas hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 23, at 10:30 am at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Church, 519 Raymond St., Bismarck, with Rev. Gregory Luger officiating.
Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.
Darren was born on November 19, 1976, the son of Donald and Diane (Walter) Miller, in Minot, ND. He attended Sunnyside Elementary School and Jim Hill Middle School before graduating from Minot High School in 1995. Darren started working in the warehouse at I. Keating Furniture World in Minot in 1995, while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Minot State University. Darren quickly became a member of the I. Keating’s family and took a position as a salesperson in Minot. When I. Keating opened a store in Bismarck in April of 2003, Darren moved there and became an integral part of the daily operations as an assistant manager. He gave so much of his time and himself to I. Keating over the years, whether it was to co-workers or customers. Working at I. Keating was more than just a job to Darren. He felt like he made a difference in his work there and he truly did as we hear of countless stories of how he not only sold furniture, but he made friends with everyone he came in contact with.
Just a little over two years ago, Darren met Jacqueline Miller. They both had waited so long to find the love of their life and there was no question that they were meant to be together. A short 10 months ago on June 22, 2018, Darren and Jackie got married and started their life together. They shared so much in that short amount of time, but had so many dreams, wishes and prayers for their marriage that the time would never be enough, but had no idea it would be this limited. Although the time together short, Jackie knew Darren loved her deeply and unconditionally. She is thankful she got to spend the last two and half years with the most amazing man she ever knew, who was so full of life and fun and laughter.
Darren was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot, and most recently, a member of Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck. Over the last 10 years he took up running and completed a number of half marathons and 5k’s throughout that time. Darren was a grilling master and loved to share his meals he made on his Traeger with family and friends and if not in person, you may have received a picture-he didn’t text often, but food pictures were the exception. Darren had a love for the water and enjoyed spending time at the lake and on the river with family and friends. He invested in his own little boat that he loved to show off and definitely made many memories for those who dared to get in the boat with him, always having the music ready to go and an adventure planned in every ride. His nephews and nieces held a special place in his heart and will be forever known as “Uncle Darren” to them and countless other kids he befriended. He was so proud of each and every one of them and enjoyed attending as many of their events as he could, but most of all he loved to tease them and make them laugh. He was also a proud Godfather to his nephew Paxton and his friend’s son, Ryker Martian.
Darren had a zest for life like no other. His energy was contagious, and he always had a smile. He loved as much as he could and as hard as he could. We thank God for the promise of eternal life and that one day we will all be reunited with Darren. We also thank God for blessing us with Darren for the short time we had him here on earth. As we’ve heard many times, the world would be a much better place if there was just a little bit of Darren Miller in everybody.
