Gordon enlisted on May 28, 1941


He died when his aircraft, Lancaster ED 825, was shot down by Flak near Meharicourt, 7 miles northwest of Roye during a Soe Special Operations Arms Supply drop to underground forces in France. All seven of the crew were killed as the plane broke out in flames and crashed into the rising ground east of the ruelle Merlin.


The other crew members were:

Pilot Officer Ralph Neville Jones RAFVR

Warrant Officer Edward Walters RCAF

Warrant Officer Robert Cummings RCAF

Flight Sergeant Robert Howell RAF

Sergeant Brook Robinson RAF

Sergeant Arthur Richardson RAF


He is also remembered on a family marker at Paisley Cemetery in Paisley, Ontario.
