Born September 14, 1924, in Franklin County, Neal Solomon was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and East Texas State University; he earned a master of science degree from Sam Houston State University and taught vocational agriculture for 14 years.
A resourceful and astute businessman, Mr. Solomon founded the Mount Vernon Insurance and Real Estate Company and owned a dairy business in Franklin County for most of his life. A talented, hardworking, and exemplary gentleman, Neal Solomon won a seat in the Texas House of Representatives in 1965 where he served for eight years and was chairman of the House Banks and Banking Committee; and
A well known civic leader, he served as mayor of Mount Vernon for several years and was president of the Rotary Club and Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he gave unselfishly of his time to others. A devout Christian, Neal Solomon was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a member of the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge and Hella Temple.
His wisdom, warm spirit, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him. Neal Solomon was a devoted husband and father who leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends.
