Dorothy Nadine Garrison of Muskogee, OK, died peacefully in her sleep in her home on April 15, 2019, three weeks shy of her 100th birthday. She was born to Earl C. Byers and Florence Opal Kelly Byers on May 4, 1919, and was predeceased by John D. Garrison, her husband of 66 years and a veteran of WWII; a daughter, Sandra Parkison; a great-granddaughter, Kristina Rockwell; a great-grandson, Jere Durham; and a sister, Virginia O’Dell.
Dorothy loved her family and expressed that love in many special ways over the years. One beloved tradition she started over 60 years ago was to give every family member a Christmas stocking, hand-made by her and unique to each person. She made her last 3 stockings in 2018, at 99 years old – one each for a new spouse to a great grandson, a great-great granddaughter, and a great-great-great grandson. She was also diligent in keeping a diary for over 60 years and built a library - in chronological order - of photo albums of family photographs, something which the entire family has enjoyed looking through at every family occasion.
One job Dorothy had outside the home was as a motor pool driver at the Muskogee Army Air Field in 1945 during WWII, transporting officers and enlisted men. She also taught sewing lessons at Singer Sewing Machine in the 1940’s, worked at S&Q Clothiers through the 1960’s and early 70’s, and later was a designer with Cagle’s Flowers for her sister, Janey Boydston.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Griffin and Teresa Honeyman; 8 grandchildren, Robin Russell, David Durham, Kevin Kelly, Gina Rockwell, John Parkison, Bryan Davis, Becky Blair, and Matthew Cannon; 23 great-grandchildren, Laura Shields, Brandon Farnam, Derek Turley, Jay Durham, John Durham, Chelsea Durham, Joshua Durham, Brian Kelly, Joshua Rockwell, Aaron Rockwell, David Parkison, Jacob Parkison, Brian Marler, Stephanie Callihan, Allison Dupy, Christopher Davis, Blake Davis, Hailey Blair, Hayden Blair, Lilly Cannon, Isaiah Cannon, Jaxson Burns, and Berkley Cannon; 10 great-great grandchildren, Sammy Shields, Deaven Turley, Ethan Turley, Damian Turley, Demi Turley, Nehemiah Serino, Ayden Morris, Ethan Rockwell, Eleanor Dupy and Benjamin Marler; and 3 great-great-great grandchildren, Danya Shields, Benjimen Lewis and Jaxson Lewis; a sister, Janey Boydston, and numerous cousins and extended family.
