Herman Friedrich Heetland

Born Dec. 11, 1831 in Oldersum, Leer, Ostfiesland, Germany.

Died Feb. 9, 1897 in Ackley, Iowa.

Herman Friedrich Heetland had an older brother whose name was Jan Friedrich Heetland.

The older brother, Jan Friedrich Heetland, and his first wife, Janna Brunken Heetland, had two children: Johann and Stientje "Stina" Heetland. Jan's first wife passed away at a fairly young age, sometime between 1856 and 1864, leaving Jan to raise their two children.

On April 2, 1864, Jan Friedrich Heetland married once again. He married Regina Wilhemina Feldman in the Silver Creek Reform Church, German Valley, Illinois. Twelve days after this marriage, Jan Friedrich Heetland passed away, leaving Regina a widow and a stepmother of Jan's two children.

Herman Friedrich Heetland's first marriage was to Juliane Luise Ravenstein. This marriage took place on Dec. 11, 1857, in Stephenson County, Illinois. Over the next four years, Herman and Juliane had three children: Hindirk "Henry" Heetland, Johann "John" Friedrich Heetland, and Paul Friedrich Heetland. In 1863, Juliane passed away, leaving Herman a widower with three children left to raise.

On Aug. 26, 1864, Herman married his brother's widow, Regina Wilhemina Feldman. With this marriage, the two families became an integrated family. In 1868, Herman and Regina had a child of their own—Ludwig "Lewis" F. Heetland.

Regina Wilhelmina Feldman passed away on April 19, 1892, and was laid to rest in the East Freisland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in rural Ackley, Iowa.

Less than five years later, February 9, 1897, Herman Friedrich Heetland passed on. He is also at eternal rest in the East Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in rural Ackley, Iowa.
