Oberlin-Funeral Services for Bertha Berry, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Progressive Church of God in Christ. Rev. Dallas will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Claire Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
The family will receive visitors Friday, April 19, 2019 from 4-9 p.m. at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin. Visitation will resume at Progressive Church of God in Christ on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Bertha Verrette Berrry was born December 28, 1932 to the union of Jean Battiste Verrette and Bertha LaCour Verrette. She was the younger of two children. Her mother died in childbirth and she went to live with her grandmother, Robertine Fontenot Verrette.
They moved to Oberlin, La where she met Thompson Berry Jr. and later on February 11, 1948 they were united in Holy Matrimony. They lived in Oberlin but moved to Chicago in 1952. There she worked for Nabisco bakery as an equipment operator.
They had two children. Bobby Jean and Quint McCullough Berry, Bertha retired early in 1969 and moved back with her husband and son to Oberlin. She enjoyed dancing, fishing, going to church, and loved zydeco music. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She fought her battle with cancer and finally went to rest. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and her.
Those left to cherish Bertha's memory include her son, Quint Berry of Oberlin; daughter, Bobby Hill of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren, Tyaka Washington (Dwayne), Tetchjan Simpson (Calvin), Tiana Webb, Tasha Webb Brinkley (Burnell), Aaron Sanders, Nadia Berry, and Terron Chatman; and eight great grandchildren, Nathan Washington, Nyah Peay, Jaeden Peay, Calvin Simpson IIII, Arilla Simpson, Anasha Webb-Ross, Alon Webb-Branche, and Amari Brinkley.

Bertha is preceded in death by her parents, Jean Battiste and Bertha Verrette; one sister, Kathlene Steely; and one great grandchild, Najhctet Simpson.
