July 9, 1935 - April 3, 2019
Funeral services for Mr. Shelby C. Melton will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019, in the Chapel of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville.
Interment will follow in Melton Cemetery, Packton, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville.
Mr. Shelby Melton, age 83, of Tioga, passed very peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at his daughter’s residence in Lavon, Texas, and on his own terms just as he lived his life.
Those close to him know, if you told him he could not do something you had better move out his way, as he was going to do whatever it took to prove he could, and it was in that same spirit he tackled every limitation his lung issues placed on him.
His family and closest friends know he lived the life of a hundred years in his eighty-three years and he used all nine lives, and we believe he used a few of ours to keep pushing the medical boundaries he was tormented with. He was quick to tell everyone in his later years he had a full life and did most everything he wanted to do and if, he had not been tethered to that oxygen tube the last seventeen years, his list of things accomplished, like visiting Wyoming, would be even longer. His hard work ethic was traditional of those growing up in the depression era and it afforded him the opportunity to enjoy a few different lifestyle and career choices from growing up on a working farm, Air Force, his lifelong membership in the IBEW 576 as a Union Electrician, to small businesses.
His strong will and very active nature gave way to enjoying every hobby that crossed his path, from his deep love of traveling, flying planes, NASCAR Racing, old cars and trucks, lifelong love of hunting, deep sea fishing, water skiing, metal detecting, HAM radios, running a pool table, poker or any card game, to his many hidden talents like making homemade wine, ceramics and even sewing and knitting very well.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Nella Melton and his wife, Patricia.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include three daughters; Judy Panessiti and her husband, Daniel, of Lavon, TX., Debora McCarthy and her husband, William, of Worcester, MA. and Terri Mitchell and her husband, Christopher, of Garland, TX.; grandchildren, Jessica Juderman VanBrunt and her husband, Richard and William, Lauren and James McCarthy and Rascal, his faithful dog, who received his unconditional love. He will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life here with us and his going home at Rush Funeral Home Pineville, on Thursday, April 11, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday, April 12, 2019, at 9:30 until time of service.
