Fort Bend Herald, April 16, 2019:

Carolyn Sue Howell, Mema, was born March 4, 1939 in Sidney, Texas, where she lived most of her young life until she married her husband, Ronnie, July 6, 1957. After their few years of Army service, they settled and remained in the Fort Bend County Area. At the onset of marriage, the kitchen was her enemy. In fact the first home cooked meal she prepared was plain spaghetti noodles with ketchup. Her homemade chocolate pie that night was so sad it had to be sipped from a cup. Through the fortunate graces of motherhood, she blossomed from a fry cook to head chef.

One of greatest sources of joy was her love for fishing. Her happiest place was to be on the coast or in the river with her rod and reel. The only things that made her happier were spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved creating jewelry, custom garments, leather works, painting cars, and hanging wall paper. She was quite a wordsmith known for writing hilarious and thoughtful poems for special occasions. Her creative ability, wit, love of fishing, and stellar outdoorsman ship will be carried on by all her many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. May there be many cozy sweaters and Dr. Peppers in heaven.

Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Howell; children, Rhonda Howell, Yvette Gutowsky, Candy Hobizal & husband Carl, Brenda Mahlmann & husband Ernie, Ron Howell & wife Melissa and Patti Gutheinz; grandchildren, Tye Blue, Brandy Martinez, Suzette Long & husband Billy, Ashley Diestel & husband Arthur, Keith Hobizal & wife Cayce, Aaron Mahlmann & wife Natalie, Grant Mahlmann, Mason Howell, Mallorie Howell; great-grandchildren, Taten Blue, Jeffrey Long, Maddie Long, Kelsey Zakem, Ryder Martinez, Brigham Hobizal, AJ Diestel, Ashton Diestel, and Slade Hobizal. She also has many aunts, uncles, nieces, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Johnnie Ward.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2019 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2019 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg followed by burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
