Jack Wayne Miletich, 69, of rural Ottumwa died at 10:10 a.m. April 12, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born December 23, 1949 in Ottumwa to Milton M. and Mary Lapsey Miletich. He married Kyla Wells January 9, 1971 and they later divorced.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1968, he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa Tech. Jack worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works and retired after 30 years. He was a carpenter and locally owned and operated Jack's Hauling.

He served with the Iowa Army National Guard, was a member of the NRA and U.A.W. Local 74. Jack drag raced for 40 years and loved working with nostalgic cars. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, helping others and caring for his dogs.

Surviving are his children, Melissa (Alex) Miletich-Volkov of Walnut Creek, CA, Lance (Anthony Melillo) Miletich of Miami, FL and Lindsey Jones of North Liberty; a step-daughter, Cassandra Bullis (Nathan Johnson) of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren, Claire, Zachary, Jacob, Andrew, Max, Kaden and Keaten; 2 sisters, Linda Phillips of Storm Lake and Sandra Jones of Des Moines; 2 nieces; a nephew; and his dog, Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn Schmidt.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.

Visitation will be open after 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family present one hour prior to the service Thursday to greet friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society.
