Elizabeth A. MacKenzie, of Houghton Lake, formerly of Bay City Mrs. MacKenzie, age 78, passed away on May 21, 2007, at Saginaw St. Mary's Hospital. Elizabeth was born in Bay City on February 12, 1929, to the late George and Ann Klepser. Elizabeth married Richard C. MacKenzie in Bay City on March 31, 1951.

She received her Masters Degree in Education from Michigan State and was a teacher for many years at Dolson School in Bay City and later in West Branch. Elizabeth and her husband had owned and operated the Linden Hof in Bay City for many years, and she was presently serving as secretary at the family owned Coyles Restaurant and Big Boy in Houghton Lake. Elizabeth was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Altar Guild, and a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the ABWA and has been a mentor at Houghton Lake Community Schools for several years.

Mrs. MacKenzie leaves her daughter Barbara Whittington and son Richard (Denise) MacKenzie, all of Houghton Lake; grandchildren Mike, Carl, and Elizabeth Whittington, and John, Rafe, Charlie, Leah, and Jackson MacKenzie.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 1996, her son John in 2004, and her brothers Andy and George.

Funeral Services for Elizabeth will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. William Winter officiating. Interment will be in Lake Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake. Visitation will be held at the Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel on Thursday, May 24, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m.
