After a very brief illness, Sheila Jo Harper, 58, Gas City, was surrounded by her loving family when she finished her race here on earth on Friday, April 12, 2019. She is now in the presence of her Creator, resting in His loving arms.

In the summer of 1960, on August 12th, Sheila was born in Marion to Jerry and Shirley (Morris) Cox. She was the second of four children. There was never a dull moment in the Cox home, especially when Sheila had three sibling brothers! Those early years proved to be the very foundation upon which Sheila’s life would be built. She had an unrivaled inner strength, and she drew from that strength for the challenges she faced throughout life. She graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1978 and excelled in softball and track. Her success as a runner and hurdler instilled “never quit” qualities within her.

The most precious gift she received in life was when she gave birth to her daughter, Nicole, who was the little girl she always wanted and loved raising.

Sheila’s associate’s degree in business management from Indiana Business School was invaluable in her job as assistant manager at New Market. She had also worked at Marsh and RCA.

Playing shuffleboard and Bingo were at the top of her “favorite activities” list. She will be remembered as one of the sweetest individuals you would ever meet and know. Our lives will never be the same without our sweet Sheila. She will be missed beyond what we can even imagine!

Survivors include her daughter, Nicole Harper, Gas City; mother, Shirley Cox, Gas City; brothers: Tim (Tammy) Cox, Bedford; Denny (Leah) Cox, Anderson; and Brad Cox, Gas City; former husband and friend, Mike Harper; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Her dad, Jerry Cox, as well as her maternal grandparents, Wavy (Pauline) Morris, and paternal grandparents, Ernest (Vergie) Cox, preceded her in death.

All who knew Sheila are invited to pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Beginning at 2 p.m., Pastor Mick Simpkins will share about Sheila’s life, as well as offer words of encouragement and comfort to loved ones and friends. She will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
